Are you overweight?

One of the most aggravating things to hear when you are trying to lose weight is some skinny person who insist that they're fat:  "I really need to lose about 10 lbs., so I can really look like a twig."  Then there are fat people who insist they only have a "few extra pounds" when the rest of us can clearly see that they are without a doubt overweight.  Then there are the people who tell you, "You don't need to lose an ounce" when you know for a fact that you have a weight problem.  So are you really overweight, or is it all in your head?

Check out this height/weight table and see how you measure up.

BMI

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a height weight ratio used to estimate the severity of health risks caused by obesity.  However, the BMI calculations do not work for children, pregnant and lactating women, or extremely muscular people (i.e. body builders).

The BMI is calculated by first converting a person's height into meters and weight into kilograms.  Then the weight is divided by the square of the height.  (BMI = kg/m2)  You can calculate your BMI using the form below, then check the chart to see if you are at risk of health problems because of your weight.
